Roberto Cavalli Sandal, Beautiful and not so Expensive

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Manolo says, this is the sort of Cavalli shoe the Manolo loves, flashy, dramatic, and all-together beautiful. And the price is not outrageous.

Why cannot all of the Cavalli shoes be like this?

Roberto Cavalli Wedge, Ugly and Expensive

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Manolo says, this is the sort of atrocity that makes the Manolo waver between anger and despair, while the price leaves him gasping.

P.S. Many thanks to the Manolo’s shoe-obsessed friend Wayne.

What the Manolo is…

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Manolo says, it is Tuesday, time to see what the Manolo is…

Reading…

Listening to…

Watching…

At the beshest of the friend the Manolo recently watched Harold and Kumar Go to the White Castle. Happily, the Manolo is able to report that this movie is vastly more entertaining than expected, which is, when one thinks of it, perhaps not saying all that much. Still, there were the few genuine laughs, and the movie is not unpleasant in spirit and intent.

Of the course, one would have to work very hard to surpass this movie as the gold standard in classic stoner movies.

Signs of “Pretty Pervasive” Abuse

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

I don’t even know how to process this.

More than half the teenage girls taken from a polygamist compound in west Texas have children or are pregnant, state officials said Monday.

A total of 53 girls between the ages of 14 and 17 are in state custody after a raid 3 1/2 weeks ago at the Yearning For Zion Ranch in Eldorado. Of those girls, 31 either have children or are pregnant, said Child Protective Services spokesman Darrell Azar. He didn’t specify how many are pregnant.

Wright’s Rant

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Wright is the gift the keeps on giving.

Maybe Barack Obama skimped on his contribution when the offering plate came past at Trinity United Church of Christ. Or perhaps he nodded off during one of Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s sermons. It’s hard to think of another reason why the Illinois Senator’s former pastor would put on the kind of performance this morning at the National Press Club that can only be described as a political disaster.

[…]

Could he explain the context behind the sermon he gave after September 11, 2001? “Have you heard the whole sermon? No? That nullifies that question.” How does he respond to critics who charge that he is unpatriotic?

Parents Charged For Letting Daughter Die of Untreated Diabetes

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

The D.A. got this one right.

The parents of an 11-year-old girl who died of complications from untreated diabetes last month have both been charged with second-degree reckless homicide, according to Marathon County District Attorney Jill Falstad.

Madeline Kara Neumann died March 23. The girl’s parents, Leilani and Dale Neumann, of Weston, have said they didn’t know she had diabetes, didn’t take her to a doctor and prayed for healing.

In a statement released at a 1 p.m. news conference, Falstad said the parents’ actions meet the standard of the charges.

“Second-degree reckless homicide has two elements,” Falstad said.

GM to Cut Shift at Janesville Plant

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

That’s a shame.

General Motors Corp. (GM) said this afternoon it will eliminate one shift of production at its sport utility vehicle factory in Janesville this summer, in a move that will result in job cuts at the plant.

The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development said that it has received a notice from GM that it plans to eliminate a second shift at Janesville, which could lead to an indefinite layoff of about 750 workers.

The Janesville plant is one of four GM factories that are eliminating shifts in response to slowing demand for large SUVs and pickup trucks.

Miu Miu Raso Sandal for the Monday

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Manolo says, after seeing so many super high shoes, this three inch heel Raso slingback sandal from Miu Miu seems somewhat restrained, this despite the refined exuberance of the bling-bling ornamentation. Simply put, it is gorgeous.

Man Blogs When Arrested in Egypt

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Back in MY day, this guy would have sat in an Egyptian prison and LIKED it!

Buck, a graduate student from the University of California-Berkeley, was in Mahalla, Egypt, covering an anti-government protest when he and his translator, Mohammed Maree, were arrested April 10.

On his way to the police station, Buck took out his cell phone and sent a message to his friends and contacts using the micro-blogging site Twitter.

The message only had one word. “Arrested.”

Within seconds, colleagues in the United States and his blogger-friends in Egypt—the same ones who had taught him the tool only a week earlier—were alerted that he was being held.
