I just woke up this morning and realized that I’m middle aged.

Jason LaSage announces for 24th

Friday, May 30th, 2008

There’s a candidate for the 24th (Jeskewitz’s seat).

Jason LaSage to Run for State Assembly

Today, former two-term Germantown school board member and life-long 24th district resident, Jason LaSage, announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination to the Wisconsin State Assembly.  “I truly enjoy listening to citizens’ concerns and working with people from all walks of life for the betterment of our community,” he said.  Chief among LaSage’s priorities is reining in taxes and government spending, which is far out pacing our ability to pay.  He believes that government needs to operate more like a business.  “Businesses and families throughout the state have to examine every item in their budget and weigh the value of their expenditures.  Government needs to follow the same process rather than constantly going back to the taxpayers for more money.”

Jason LaSage believes that lower taxes, fewer regulations on businesses and individuals, and reducing government spending, will create a healthier climate for growth and economic opportunity in our state.  “The road to prosperity in Wisconsin is not paved with big government spending, taxes, regulations and borrowing.

Jonah Goldberg Event

Friday, May 30th, 2008

I have just returned from the Club for Growth event with Jonah Goldberg and emceed by Charlie Sykes.

It was a blast.

The room was full.  I heard the number 130, but I didn’t count.  It was really a who’s who of the Conservative leadership in Wisconsin.  Conservative elected folks.  Conservative media.  Conservative money bags.  Conservatives everywhere.  It was cool.

Walker’s Expanding Staff

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Tell me that this headline wasn’t intentional:

Walker wants to hire more staff at House

The story is:

In an effort to curb runaway overtime costs, Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker is calling for the hiring of an additional 27 security officers at the House of Correction.

HP Sucks

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

I hate to admit it, but HP sucks.

I have always been a fan of HP.  I love their servers.  Their PCs are OK.  Their printers print great.  But the printer software makes me want to take my laptop and shove it up some HP developer’s… pie hole.

We have an HP wireless printer.  When we first got it, the software was oppressive.  It loaded half a dozen services, conflicted with other programs, and bogged down our systems.  I had to unintstall most of the crap just to get my PC back to normal.  Then, all was good…

This last week, I had to replace our wireless router.  No big deal.  Then, obviously, I needed to reconfigure the wireless printer to work on the new SSID.  Again, no big deal, or at least it shouldn’t have been.  I hooked up the USB cable and went to town.  An HOUR LATER, the piece of garbage still didn’t work, the HP software was taking 10 minutes just to spin up, and I was running out of battery.

Again, I love how HP printers print, but the software they insist on using is complete crap.  This will be our last HP printer.

Interpreting an Obama Victory/Loss

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Elliot speaks the truth.

If Barack Obama loses the general election…

…it will be called proof that America is racist. (Especially conservatives.)

But if he wins, it will be considered evidence the he has a “mandate” to govern as a liberal.

The “Fairness” of Progressive Taxation

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Indeed.

Damn the consequences - I cannot support a “progressive” tax system that taxes some more than others because those with more money “need it less than others.” If I work double the hours of most Americans for 20 years of my life, forgoing vacations and excessive beer/cigarettes/sex that consume most people’s lives, and if as a result I am able to earn an income that is above average - say $500k to $1mm - I would like to know… by what right do my elected officials have to tell me that I should be willing to spend a greater percentage of my income to compensate for the failings of the bastard-makers and society-looters that cannot provide for themselves?
