A True American hero.
“There were thousands of bodies piled high. I saw hearts that had been taken from live people in medical experiments,” Hoyt told author Stephen Bloom in a soon-to-be-published book called “The Oxford Project.”
“They said a wife of one of the SS officers—they called her the Bitch of Buchenwald—saw a tattoo she liked on the arm of a prisoner, and had the skin made into a lampshade. I saw that.” See the horrors of Buchenwald »
Pete Geren, the secretary of the U.S. Army, said the sacrifice Hoyt made for his country so many years ago should never be forgotten.

Diplomacy from a position of strength always yields better results.
Assistant Secretary of State David Welch signed the deal in Tripoli, Libya, on Thursday. If implemented, the deal will end Libya’s legal liability in numerous lawsuits from families of victims of what the United States considers Libyan terrorist acts. It also paves the way for stronger ties between the two nations and increased U.S. involvement in the oil-rich nation.
“This resolves the last major historical issue that has stood in the way of a more normal relationship between our two countries,” Welch said.
The deal previously had hinged on congressional approval.

But…
A British man has been banned from visiting his girlfriend’s home after neighbors complained about noisy sex, a local official said Thursday.
A court barred Adam Hinton, 32, from being within 110 yards of his 29-year-old girlfriend Kerry Norris’ apartment, Brighton and Hove City Council spokesman Mike Taggart said.
Residents of Norris’s publicly owned home had been complaining since 2006 about thumping music, banging headboards and screamed obscenities, Taggart said.

Excellent!
Advocates of open source software have hailed a court ruling protecting its use even though it is given away free.
The US federal appeals court move overturned a lower court decision involving free software used in model trains that a hobbyist put online.
The court has now said conditions of an agreement called the Artistic Licence were enforceable under copyright law.
“For non-lawgeeks, this won’t seem important but this is huge,” said Stanford Law Professor Larry Lessig.
“In non-technical terms, the Court has held that free licences set conditions on the use of copyrighted work.

Ouch.
In a March 2007 memo, Mark Penn, Clinton’s former chief strategist, wrote, “all of these articles about his boyhood in Indonesia and his life in Hawaii are geared toward showing his background is diverse, multicultural and putting that in a new light. Save it for 2050,” according to Atlantic magazine writer Joshua Green.
“It also exposes a very strong weakness for him—his roots to basic American values and culture are at best limited. I cannot imagine America electing a president during a time of war who is not at his center fundamentally American in his thinking and in his values,” Penn wrote.
